Kent regarded as a Garden of England is ful of the picturesque villages and towns. One of them can be Strood which is located on the banks of River Medway where the river is at its lowest bridging point. It aslo neighbours with the historic Rochester.
Going back to the first half of the I century when the Romans invaded yhose lands one can finde that this culture had hugely influenced this town. Strood was on a way to London. They headed from Dover and they have been looking for a wasy through the river. The River Medway is getting wider and wider after it passes Strood and Rochester so Romans decided to build there a stone bridge. As the bridge was finished they began building road which was later on a trade route known as Watling Street.
After Romans came Normans and then Simon de Monfort had decided that strood should be defended properly and founded the Rochester Castle which was protection the Strood side banks of the river.
Apart of that Stroond was also know of its fair which had been takng place since 1206 up to the 18th century. Nowadays Strood’s trade market is open at Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday.
In strood there are plenty of museas that will move your imagination. One of them can be a Old Brook Pumping station where pone can admire the 19th enginerling masterpiece – The printing press. It was built in 1845 by George Clymer. His ivnention’s name was The Columbia Press and it was a state-of-art in those times
Another exhibit is a Diesel Road Roller which has been constructed by Aveling and Porter in the very same century. This engine was capable of making 27 bhp at 264 rpm.
Anotherplace worth visiting is Kent Police Museum which its invenotry has such things as Station Globe which had been a sign placed on the policeyards. Amongst the exhibits one can also find a coppers trunchon, lamp and a collection of badges.
